“A new experience not only replaces old ones but also provides a layered view of how we see ourselves, and the world we inhabit. These new narratives, maps, discoveries, often propelled by happenstance, form the foundation of my work”

stop-motion artworks inspired by the countries i’ve lived: usa, china, indonesia, qatar, thailand, and nepal
“Ping pong balls adrift in a sea of pink kinetic sand, crumpled pages of Sanskrit, Jesus eating popcorn, and Hulk Hogan playing guitar. A laughing Ryan Gosling, a slice of pizza, and a grandmother grooving in her kitchen. This is the wild, dancing world of… Joey Foster Ellis” - Adobe Creative Cloud Magazine

stop-motion music videos of creole hip hop, bombay electronic, and chinese bluegrass
Stop-motion music videos from a wide selection of tunes. From Sierra Leone to India all the way to Nashville China Fusion.

Gifs, maps, book covers and a selection of objects make up the characters in my stop-motion artwork that tell a story of how a young man raised in Upstate New York can be influenced by, and influence, a culture other than his own.

“I have created stop-motion works illustrating that within the boundaries of culture, politics and self-expression, there are possibilities for individuality – not dwelling on the limitations, but what can be utilized within them. This is expressed in the choice and manipulation of the mediums. I do not push my materials to the edge but, in fact, embrace and investigate the banal features they exhibit.”
